Prac 2

Kaiako pitomata should now have settled into their prac 2 placement. In most cases they should have completed their observation tasks and last week should have picked up some small group teaching opportunities. This week we expect them to be building on this and taking on multi groups and pockets of whole class teaching where possible.

It would be great to provide an opportunity for your kaiako pitomata to experience full responsibility before the end of term 3. Having them lead the learning for half days of a full day gives them a taste of what full responsibility will be like in term. It is useful to build toward this by scaffolding them into more responsibility. It is expected that kaiako pitomata will complete more than 2 weeks of full responsibility as a result.

We suggest building this week to some half days and next week to 1-3 days and then weeks 1 & 2 of term 4.

Obviously this needs to be responsive to your setting so it is up to you to negotiate a time that best suits.

Your kaiako pitomata should be using a planning system that aligns with the school but that has the necessary level of detail to feel confident that they know what they are doing. We have suggested sequential planners for this. Some may choose to retain the individual lesson plan template but using a google slide is in most cases insufficient.
