Well we are at the end of Semester 1 and have to say it has been a busy one! Our on campus students have just completed their practicum 1B which included a strong focus on planning and assessment and being able to demonstrate sustained practice across 5 days consecutive full responsibility teaching. Kaiako pitomata are heading back into campus or online to delve more deeply into Curriculum and Pedagogy in preparation for practicum 2 at the end of term3 and beginning of term 4.
Our School Onsite training programme students have just completed their 'exteneded practicum at their 'away'setting'. They had to forge relationships very fast and move into full responsibility teaching in a short space of time. They were all up to the challenge and the feedback we have had has been strong.
We are seeing an increase in LAT appointments across NZ as we feel the pinch of the teacher shortage. Our SOTP students are well placed to start picking these up with more than 65 days in school in semester 1. We are looking forward to semester 2 and the increase of responsibility our kaiako pitomata will take on.
