Our  kaiako pitomata are out in schools this week in practicum placement 1A. This week they are focusing on building positive relationship with ākonga, whanau and kaiako. They will be undertaking a range of observation tasks as they get to know the tamariki and the classroom routines. We hope they are 'noticing' all sorts of things. They should be observing your lessons and asking questions about pedagogical approaches you are using - understanding the 'why'.

They will no doubt be feeling a mix of anxious and excited but we feel they are more than ready for their first practica.

They do have some key tasks to complete this week as they start dipping their toes into teaching small pockets (roll and notices, or shared book is a great place to start).

Please support your kaiako pitomata by providing time to compete these tasks and answer questions they might have. It is recommended that you formally establish a way of working together - this might be setting a regular time each day/week you are going to meet. Communicate your expectations as a kaiako hāpai (e.g. when and how you would like planning).
