Week 3 Practicum 1A

Welcome to Week 3. We are starting to hear about a few illnesses floating around - our kaiako pitomata haven't had a chance yet to build up their immune systems to the bugs and germs in schools. If your student teacher has a day off sick they are required to inform us at Massey so we can record the absence and are encouraged to make this day up in between 1A & 1B in order to meet the Teaching Councils 80 day practicum requirement.

This week we should start to see a real step up in terms of planning and delivering learning experiences. KP should start to manage multi groups (in order to get a sense of classroom management & logistics - this also helps them to understand timing). Online zoom meetings will start with your the nominated Pou Ārahi (appraiser). If you have not heard from your appraiser yet to book a time please encourage your kaiako pitomata to follow this up. The appraisal for 1A is a triadic professional discussion where you will have an opportunity to discuss what is going well and what are the areas to work on (next steps).

It is encouraged that you take time this week to review the practicum progress report and discuss the indicators in the key teaching tasks together (where do you think they are at). This gives your KP a chance to develop focus and improve. The practicum progress report can be found under resources on this site or it was emailed to you by our practicum administrator.

You will need to have a completed copy of the report to your kaiako pitomata by the end of 1A (next friday). You will add to the same report in 1B so you do not need to feel compelled to fill in all sections (just mark the indicators and comment where you can).

Have a great week !
